Making PDFs Inclusive

A standard image-based PDF is invisible to a blind person using a screen reader.

Key Steps for Accessibility

  1. OCR: Ensure there is selectable text, not just images of text.
  2. Alt Text: Add descriptions to images.
  3. Tags: Define headers ($ H1, H2 $) so the reader can navigate structure.
  4. Contrast: Ensure text colors are high contrast against the background.

Inclusive design benefits everyone, not just those with disabilities.
